UPALI BEACH SURF RESORT ARUGAM BAY

INFO & TIPS TO PREPARE A SURF TRIP IN ARUGAM BAY - SRI LANKA

Main Point is a reef break and the old reef is not really smooth. With our tropical climate, the smallest cut on a foot or ankle can turn bad in no time. Surfing boots are a good option to prevent infected wounds.
We have lime available at the cafe to apply as "first emergency" on reef cuts, it's very efficient to kill the germs.
But you should keep on watching and cleaning your wounds twice a day until they have healed completely. Applying "fucidine" cream on wounds can really help prevent infections. If it doesn't heal fine, don't wait and go see a doctor. Usually when cuts turn bad, you'll have to take antibiotic pills to sort it out.
We suggest that you ask some advices from your doctor back home.

Don't forget to bring your favorite TROPICAL wax, you can always find some in town but definitely not at proximity of the spots. A spare set of fins and an extra leash (leg rope) might be useful too ;)

As the sun is very strong, we suggest that you consider bringing a lycra, a high factor sunscreen and a surfing hat. If you can find lycras and surf hats here (at Dylan's surf company for example), buying a good sunscreen will be much harder.

Best surf spots in and around Arugam Bay for beginners : Baby Point, Peanut Farm, Elephant Rock and Panama.

Like everywhere else in the world, respect others, respect the priorities, don't snake, don't drop locals or try to drown them (yes some people have tried in the past :)

Don't endanger yourself and/or the other riders, surfing is not about that! Be honest with yourself and your skills. Main Point is not a wave for beginners. Select the good spot and conditions to match your surfing level.
